Description: The Shell Center for Sustainability with the Houston Museum of Natural Science (HMNS) invite teachers and group leaders to:

Teacher and Group Leader Workshop: Sustainable Development and Houston, October 11, 2012, 5 to 8pm, at the HMNS.

A for-credit workshop that will provide access to resources on sustainability and opportunity to contribute to the development of the Houston Sustainability Indicators (HSI) project.

In addition to contributing to the HSI project, teachers of all grades and subjects including science, environmental studies, social studies, economics, and mathematics will find the project valuable in their classrooms. Group leaders will also find social, environmental and economic value in the data presented. Indicators include: Population Growth, Education Attainment, Community Involvement, Income Inequality, Concentration of Poverty, Access to Healthcare, Cost of Living, Quality of Life, Accessibility of Public Spaces, Food Deserts, Employment Status, Jobs, Green Jobs, Waste Generation, Energy Use, Transportation Access, Transportation Demand, Transportation Choice, Air Quality, Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Water Quality, Water Quantity, Street Connectivity, Land Cover, and Job/ Housing Balance.
