The wooded riparian habitat of Buffalo Bayou is one of Houston’s greatest natural resources, and it needs protecting. Recently the Bayou Preservation Association partnered with the Boy Scouts of America’s local Troop 1919 to teach environmental stewardship along the bayou.

A tree planting campaign recently started in Bastrop State Park, as 95 percent of its trees were destroyed by fire last year. The seedlings for this campaign have been stored by the Forest Service since 1992, and were almost thrown away weeks before the fire struck last year.
