Scientists David Criswell and George Reiter at the University of Houston are studying the viability and technicalities of beaming solar power from the Moon to the Earth. The research shows that this seemingly fantastic bit of “science-fiction,” is actually close to being within our reach! Massive amounts of sunshine pour down on the Moon offering vast, clean energy that could be captured. This energy could be converted into electricity on the Moon, and then sent to Earth in microwave power beams. Considering the amount of energy a lunar solar power system could generate, one can see a near limitless supply of energy and the virtual end of fossil fuels.
