Neil Carman, PhD, has been honored with the Virginia Ferguson Award for his 20 years of exemplary service as clean air director for the Lone Star Sierra Club. Carman first became aware of Texas’ air pollution problems and public health hazards in the first 12 years of his career as air pollution control inspector of industrial plants for the Texas Air Control Board (TACB), now known as Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). He then left to work for the Lone Star Sierra Club, where he has continued to take steps to improve Texas’ air pollution problems.
