  2. Memorial Park Trees. Foresters have estimated that over 30% of the trees in Memorial Park have died and expect more to die over the next several years as a result of the drought.  Memorial Park Conservancy (MPC) and Houston Parks and Recreation Department have taken emergency measures to rent watering trucks to save as many trees as possible. Also, fire mitigation work is underway to remove underbrush to create fire breaks in the event of a wildfire.  These short-term measures will help but will not be enough to save most of the trees.  Even before this crisis, MPC initiated a Forestry Study concluding that the forest was in serious decline. This work is now more urgent than ever. To learn how you can help support emergency watering, fire mitigation work, the forestry study, and future replanting, visit www.memorialparkconservancy.org.

Moving Planet will be a day to put our demands for climate action into motion marching, biking, skating—calling for the world to go beyond fossil fuels. On Friday, September 23rd, there will be a party at Houston City Hall (901 Bagby) from 7pm-12. On Saturday, September 24th, there will be a bike ride through the city.
