Learn about the wilder side of love as we explore animal reproduction. We’ll discuss the origins of romance in the fossil record, the sometimes violent “battle of the sexes,” and some of the many types of relationships that exist in nature. Then we’ll talk about the courtship strategies of our local Arboretum animals before going on a hike to look for singing birds, dancing spiders, and other amorous critters.

Class schedule: about one hour in the classroom and one hour of walking. Wear walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Feel free to bring your camera and a pair of binoculars (we’ll have some binoculars available to borrow).

Instructor bio: Kelsey received her B.S. in biology from the University of Victoria and is currently working on her Master’s in Biology through Villanova University. Though her main focus is birds, she is also interested in animal behavior and ecology in general.
