Community Notes 04-13-2011

  1. Sea Turtle Nesting Time. The Kemp’s ridley nesting season has begun all along the Texas coast. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has encouraged the public to immediately call 1-866-TURTLE-5 if a sea turtle is seen on the beach. This toll-free number sponsored by the Sea Turtle Restoration Project will provide information or try to reach the site. For more information on the Sea Turtle Restoration Project, visit http://www.seaturtles.org/.
  2. E-Cycling Drive. For Earth Day Houston 2011, there will be an e-cycling drive on Friday, April 15th from 6am-2pm at ABC-13 Studios (3310 Bissonnet). Items that will be accepted include TVs (36″ or less), CPUs, monitors, keyboards, printers, fax machines, power cords, cell phones, and telephones. For more information, visit http://abclocal.go.com.
  3. Marsha Hill Classic Golf Tournament. Marsha Hill was the TCEQ Region 12 Director before she passed away last year. She was a wonderful lady whose memory is being honored through the tournament and scholarship. Several of her colleagues are arranging the April 12, 2011, memorial tournament to raise funds for a scholarship in Marsha’s name. The Air & Waste Management Association–Gulf Coast Chapter will administer the scholarship. The Air & Waste Management Association is an independent, non-profit organization which raises and manages private gifts to benefit and promote environmental studies. More information is available at http://www.awma-gcc.org/MHC/MHC.htm.
  4. Region H Water Planning Group. The Region H Water Planning Group will be holding a public meeting in conjunction with their regular May 4, 2011 meeting.  Two notices for that meeting are on the Region H website at www.regionhwater.org. The first advises that the Planning Group is applying to the Texas Water Development Board for planning funds.  The second requests public comment on items that should be included in the scope of work for the Fourth Round of Regional Water Planning.  The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at the offices of the San Jacinto River Authority, 1577 Dam Site Road, Conroe, Texas.
