Spring Migration Field Trip for Senior Nature Discovery Center Members

Title: Spring Migration Field Trip for Senior Nature Discovery Center Members
Location: Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge and High Island
Link out: Click here
Description: It’s time for the Nature Discovery Center’s annual spring birding trips during the height of spring migration! We’re offering two trips to Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge and High Island, led again this year by Mary Ann Beauchemin. We expect to see many species of warblers, vireos, buntings, orioles and other migrants.

The trips will begin at Anahuac! We were not able to get a seniors’ bus from Harris County Precinct 3, and have therefore made the following changes:

• Meet at 8 am at the restrooms & old visitor center at Anahuac NWR. After birding Anahuac, we will head to Houston Audubon’s High Island Sanctuaries and maybe later to Bolivar, depending on the birds. We will end about 6 pm, but you can leave as needed.

• Transportation to and from the field trips is the responsibility of each participant. The Nature Discovery Center encourages car pooling. If you need help finding a driver, contact Mary Ann and she will try to put you in touch with someone.

• NDC membership and Advanced Registration are required. Senior & Family memberships are available. Registration for the trip will be online. Come back soon for a clickable link to the registration form.

• The trips are open to any member age 10 or over. (Anyone under 21 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.)

• Trip maximum – 25 people, minimum – 12 people. Please sign up for only ONE trip date.

• Costs: $5/person for Audubon Sanctuary Fees OR free with Audubon Sanctuaries Season Pass. Bring this fee or your Season’s Pass with you the day of the trip.

• Donations for the Nature Discovery Center, staff time & drinks will be appreciated.

The Nature Discovery Center will provide water and soft drinks. Bring your own coffee, snacks, lunch, insect repellent, binoculars and field guides. (If you need to borrow a pair of binoculars please let us know when you register.) Rain will bring down more birds for us to look at, so this trip will go regardless of the weather. Dress and be prepared accordingly.
