Description: For two decades, National Groundwater Awareness Week has spotlighted an important resource-groundwater. Groundwater is found underground in the cracks and spaces in soil, sand, and rock. In Texas, groundwater supplies 59 percent of all freshwater used by the state and as much as 79 percent of the water used for agriculture.

Sponsored by the National Ground Water Association, the week has helped to help bring greater attention to the importance of groundwater and how everyone can do their part to protect this resource.
