Description: Since the early 1900’s, rural residents of the mountains of Appalachia have woven intricate baskets for carrying items such as eggs, cotton, and herbs. These beautiful and durable baskets are now prized by collectors and museums.

Master basket weaver Kathy Chang will lead this hands-on workshop where students will learn the ancient techniques of circular coiling, figure 8 stitch, split stitch, and ending coil. The instructor will provide longleaf pine needles and walnut slices because of their strength, length, color and heavenly scent.

Suggestions for participating in this hands-on workship: dress casually, bring a sack lunch, and prepare for a fun, challenging workshop!
