AliefVotes Fellowship Application

Who can apply? This application is open to all High School Students within Alief ISD (Taylor, Elsik, Hastings, Alief Early College, and Kerr).
Application Deadline: September 21, 2025 at 11:59 PM.
About AliefVotes: Founded in 2022, AliefVotes is a non-profit that empowers youth civic engagement in Alief, a working-class and immigrant community in Southwest Houston. Alief has low voter turnout, economic divestment, and ineffective community engagement. Situated in City Council District F, we’re the “forgotten district.” In response, we began AliefVotes.
About the Fellowship: The AliefVotes Fellowship Program is a year-long intensive for students to receive interactive civic engagement training, leadership opportunities, and unique non-partisan government experiences. This program is a great opportunity to gain leadership experience, resume-worthy skills, and further community within Alief through engaging and thoughtful civic engagement. No experience needed.
Students selected will:
- Receive a $250 stipend and merchandise at the end of the Fellowship.
- Learn about the enriching history and progression of the Alief community.
- Attend comprehensive civic engagement and leadership trainings in the fall semester. Topics include non-profit management, voter education, local governance, and community organizing.
- Be empowered to organize a community event in the spring semester, such as a voter registration drive, workshops, park clean ups, volunteering events, food drives, and more with a supplied budget.
- Meet community mentors—including elected officials, community leaders, business organizations, and non-profit staff for recommendation letters, relationships, and more.
