Urban Harvest seeks Farmers Market Coordinator

Location: Houston, TX FLSA

Status: Exempt/Non-Exempt Position

Type: Part-Time (15+ hours/week)

Reports To: Food Access Director

Department: Food Access

Job Summary: The Farmers Market Coordinator is responsible for the successful planning, coordination, and day-today operation of the year-round Urban Harvest Farmers Market. The role ensures a vibrant, inclusive, and efficient marketplace that supports local farmers, food producers, artisans, and the surrounding community. The FM Coordinator oversees and manages on-site vendors, coordinates Saturday market logistics, enforces policies, works with SJS security and HPD officers, engages with customers and community partners, and promotes the market in a positive light. This position requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills, a passion for local food systems, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic, outdoor environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Farmers Market Operations:

o Manages all daily aspects of the Saturday Farmers Market, including coordination of staff, vendors, security, and partners.

o Train and supervise staff, interns, or assistants as needed o Ensure maintenance of Farmers Market site, equipment, and supplies

o Cultivate and manage relationships with site contacts, farmers, producers, and other partners. o Attends quarterly Farmers Market Committee meetings

o Oversees on-site programming events, weekly music, and staffing

o Interfaces with stakeholders to achieve variety and support a diversity of products and producers

Data Collection and Reporting:

o Use data to improve the program and address community needs continuously.

o Collaborate with staff on grant writing, storytelling, and improvement planning

Qualifications:

  • Required: Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
  • 1-3 years of experience; Logistical knowledge of sourcing, procurement, and product ordering for
    medium-scale operations (restaurant or retail) and understanding of seasonal produce
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in using social media, Microsoft Office, and data management software.
