Buffalo Bayou Partnership
Established in 1986, Buffalo Bayou Partnership (BBP) creates and stewards welcoming parks, trails,
and unique spaces, connecting Houstonians with the city’s most significant natural waterway. The
non-profit organization’s geographic focus is the 10-mile stretch of the bayou that flows from
Shepherd Drive, through the heart of downtown, into the East End, and on to the Port of Houston
Turning Basin. BBP spearheads award-winning projects such as Buffalo Bayou Park; constructs hike
and bike trails; removes trash from the waterway; and engages tens of thousands of visitors each
year through programming, public art, volunteer events, and recreational opportunities.
Buffalo Bayou Park
The 2.3-mile 160-acre Buffalo Bayou Park, located just west of downtown, is one of Houston’s most
iconic green spaces and one of the country’s great urban parks. Maintained by BBP, the park offers
a multitude of recreational and cultural activities, while playing a critical role in flood water
conveyance. Various zones are located throughout the park, including riparian, woodlands, groves,
perennial gardens, and prairie and wildflower areas.
Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Conservation Manager, the Conservation Technician assists with
the restoration and enhancement of Buffalo Bayou Park’s riparian areas and natural landscapes.
This position works cooperatively with other Conservation Technicians, the park’s Volunteer
Manager, Zone Supervisors, Horticulturalist, and Grounds Crew.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain riparian and native landscape areas through planting, weeding, pruning,
seeding, invasive plant removal, fertilizing, mulching, herbicide treatments, etc. - Operate equipment to perform tasks.
- Assist Volunteer Manager at volunteer events.
- Participate in training and continuing education activities.
- Assist and perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, wildlife biology, ecological restoration, environmental
science, or related field* - Able to work primarily outdoors and perform physical labor in weather conditions ranging
from extreme heat to extreme cold temperatures - Able to lift up to 50 pounds
*Note: This is an entry-level position. Minimal experience is a plus.
