Houston Botanic Garden seeks BotaniCamp Summer Counselor
The mission of the Houston Botanic Garden is to enrich life through discovery, education, and conservation of plants and the natural environment. HBG is building an organization and a staff to welcome guests to its world-class botanic garden, which opened in the fall of 2020, and to inspire people to love plants and be good stewards of the natural world.
Houston Botanic Garden seeks three seasonal, part-time camp counselors for our 6- week summer
camp program. Summer camps will run from June 17 – August 9, and take place Monday through
Friday, with 8am-2pm with 2-5pm after care. Ideal candidates for the camp counselor positions are
enthusiastic and experienced in supervising and engaging children in a summer camp environment.
Candidates should have knowledge and interest in plant and nature related topics and be comfortable
with spending time outdoors in Houston summer conditions. Candidates must be available for all 6
weeks. Counselors are expected to work 1-2 after care shifts per week.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interact and work with campers of various ages in an encouraging manner
- Interact with camp parents in a professional and accommodating demeanor
- Interact with and take direction from BotaniCamp Teachers
- Organize classroom materials and projects
- Assist summer camp teachers
- Manage classroom as the lead teacher as needed
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
- Complete other duties as assigned
Schedule and Salary:
- Schedule: during Botanicamp part time, hourly. Weekday only
- Compensation range $14.50 to 16.50 an hour.
- Position is available on June 10, 2024.
