Memorial Park Conservancy seeks Maintenance and Mechanic Operations Technician

Preserve, restore, and enhance Memorial Park for the enjoyment of all Houstonians, today and tomorrow.

Job Summary: The Maintenance and Mechanic Operations Technician will work with the Maintenance and Mechanic Operations Coordinator to perform basic maintenance duties throughout the park. The Maintenance Operations Technician will be responsible for performing regular amenity, facility, equipment, and feature inspections through the park and completing any necessary repairs. The Maintenance and Mechanic Operations Technician will also assist with repairs to MPC’s fleet of equipment including trucks, tractors, mowers, and powered lawn equipment.
Base Schedule: Monday-Friday 6am- 2:30pm, but must be available to work some weekends. 

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • General building and facilities upkeep and maintenance.
  • Assist with basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs.
  • Assist with basic repair and maintenance to engines and component assemblies used in automotive and equipment powered by internal combustion engines, motors, small power equipment, electric and battery powered equipment, and hydraulics.  
  • Demonstrate ownership of assigned work by upholding maintenance standards to the highest degree.
  • Interact with Park users in a courteous and professional manner
  • Communicate issues regarding infrastructure, furnishings, safety hazards, quality of the park user experience issues as needed via work order software.
  • Perform regular park amenity and facility inspections and keep track of inspection reports via work order software.
  • Perform regular equipment inspections and hours and keep track of reports via work order software.
  • Track work completed and in progress using work order software.
  • Keep Park common areas clean and hazard free.
  • Comply with all MPC rules, safety policies, and procedures, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Operate small and medium sized equipment including utility vehicles, trucks, backpack blowers, edgers, string trimmers, and others as needed.
    • Operate hand tools and power tools.

Minimum Requirements:

  • One year experience in equipment/facilities maintenance or similar field.
  • General knowledge in carpentry, tiling, painting, plumbing, and electric.
  • General knowledge of equipment maintenance.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well with others as well as independently

Abilities Required:

  • Ability to perform heavy, physical labor daily in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize work functions and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly throughout a given workday.
  • Ability to operate power equipment throughout a workday.
  • Ability to stand, crouch, and climb to use ladders and perform various types of manual labor throughout the day.

Employees are expected to obey safety rules and to exercise caution in all their work activities. Accordingly, employees should be aware of any hazards, which could cause an injury or accident (e.g., spills, obstacles in walkways). If an employee discovers a potentially dangerous condition, he/she should alert other employees and notify his/her supervisor immediately.

Compensation:
This is an hourly non-exempt position with starting pay rate of $14/hour and an increase to $15.00/hour after completion of a 90-day probationary period. Benefits include full paid medical, dental and vision benefits, paid time off, short-term and long-term disability and 401k retirement plan.
