Texas Community Watershed Partners seeks Wetland/Water Quality Student Intern
Texas Community Watershed Partners (a part of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Disaster Assessment and Recovery Unit) in Houston, TX is seeking applications for a paid Student Intern position for the spring 2023 semester, working 20 hours per week. This position is expected to work in person at our Clear Lake Houston area office and the Exploration Green wetland nursery site on Seakale Ln. Some evening or weekend hours
may be required.
This position is responsible for assisting the GIFT (Green Infrastructure for Texas) Wetland Team Program Specialist with water quality sample collections at our stormwater wetland project, assisting with stormwater wetland planting workdays and report creation.
Responsibilities include:
· Assist the GIFT team with the monitoring project’s set up and maintenance of equipment at three monitoring sites. Including being able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
· Assist the GIFT team with the monitoring project’s sample collection following the monitoring schedule and project-specific Quality Assurance Project Plans.
· Assist the GIFT team with clerical duties such as data entry, reports, filing, maintaining, and retrieving documents, equipment information and records.
· Assemble, maintain, clean, calibrate, store and record data for field equipment
· Assist in the preparation of various reports and give presentations, etc.
· Working with volunteers to coordinate planting workday activities and general nursery maintenance, including driving a university vehicle to and from planting events.
· Adhere to safety practices, policies, and protocols established by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension.
· Perform other work as assigned
· Cross-training on related projects, such as website updates and data reporting can occur within TCWP’s Green Infrastructure for Texas program.
The Intern applicant must be a self-starter with a positive attitude and able to work independently as well as collaboratively in the office as part of the growing GIFT team and with volunteers. Applicants must be enrolled in a college or university with a degree plan in environmental science, natural resource management, biology, or comparable field of study. Knowledge of chemistry, water quality, wetlands and plant identification are
preferred. A clean driving record is required.
