  1. 1,000 acres preserved near Danbury (Harvey Rice – Houston Chronicle, 12/24/2014)
“More than 1,000 acres of land in Brazoria County will be sheltered from development under an agreement between a conservation group and a farmer. A farmer near Danbury accepted a $1.3 million payment from the Galveston Bay Foundation in an agreement sealed Tuesday to conserve the land in its present state in perpetuity, said Bob Stokes, foundation president. The deal will allow the rice farmer to continue farming and preserve woods and land adjacent to Austin Bayou.”

  2. Montgomery County draws line on bullet train through western side (Cindy Horswell – Houston Chronicle, 12/23/2014)
“Montgomery County commissioners have unanimously adopted a strongly worded resolution criticizing any effort to run a high-speed train between Houston and Dallas through the western side of the fast-growing county. Instead, commissioners believe the right track for such a bullet train to take would be down the Interstate 45 corridor, where road congestion is steadily worsening. The Woodlands Township wrote a letter a few weeks earlier expressing the same sentiment.”

  3. National group proposes turning Astrodome into indoor park (Erin Mulvaney – Houston Chronicle, 12/19/2014)
“The iconic, yet aging Astrodome is worth saving from the wrecking ball and could find new life as a massive indoor park and green space, a national land use group said Friday. A panel of experts with the Urban Land Institute released a preliminary proposal for the former Eighth Wonder of the World that would convert it into a public space that includes an indoor lawn, outdoor gardens with a promenade of oak trees, and exhibit space for festivals and community events. It would also include a play area with zip lines, trails and rock climbing walls.”
