  1. Judge orders further study over flooding concerns in Grand Parkway plan (Houston Chronicle, 08/27/2012)
    A federal judge ruled that the Army Corps of Engineers failed to fully analyze potential flooding downstream of a planned leg of the Grand Parkway in west Harris County but refused to block the project. The Corps was ordered to take another look at the flooding consequences of more construction of roads, houses and office and retail buildings that are bound to follow the Grand Parkway upstream of the Addicks dam.

  2. Heroes’ Update – Neil Carman Honored for Three Decades Dedicated to Cleaner Air for Texans (CLEAN, 08/30/2012)
    Neil Carman, PhD, has been honored with the Virginia Ferguson Award for his 20 years of exemplary service as clean air director for the Lone Star Sierra Club. Carman first became aware of Texas’ air pollution problems and public health hazards in the first 12 years of his career as air pollution control inspector of industrial plants for the Texas Air Control Board (TACB), now known as Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). He then left to work for the Lone Star Sierra Club, where he has continued to take steps to improve Texas’ air pollution problems.

  3. Texas Gets a Shallow Win in Its Battles with the EPA (Larry R. Soward – Air Alliance Houston, 08/28/2012)
    A recent court ruling overturned the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) 2010 disapproval of Texas’ flexible air permitting program. The divided 3-judge panel held that the EPA did not rely on its technical expertise in rejecting the flexible permit program.
