The proposed “Houston Fleet Share” program, a ride-sharing program, will expand and upgrade Houston’s use of electric vehicles as 50 city-owned fleet vehicles will be made available for city employees. The three-year deal will eventually involve 300 drivers across 13 city departments and is funded by the State Energy Conservation Office American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (SECO-ARRA) Transportation Program (SEP).

  2. Rewards offered for green commuting: Bike, bus or train to work and get gift certificates (Whitney Radley – Houston Culture Map, 08/17/2012)
A program offers tangible incentives for people to commute alternatively. NuRide is a site that rewards people with coupons, gift cards and more for walking or biking to work, taking the bus or rail, ride sharing or even telecommuting. It takes only a few moments to create a free NuRide account, and commuters can immediately begin tracking and tallying trips, arranging carpools and ride shares, through the easy-to-use site.

  3. New Online “Ozone Map” Will Help Houston Residents Reduce Lung Exposure (Carrie Feibel – KUHF News, 08/20/2012)
Houstoncleanairnetwork.org is a new website that allows people to track Houston’s most notorious air pollutant, ozone, down to the neighborhood level. The available map updates every five minutes and tracks ozone down to the one square-kilometer level. This is an important tool as the American Lung Association currently ranks Houston #7 among most ozone-polluted cities.
