    Artist Boat offers a unique program in which students can take trips to learn about the environment, kayaking, and art. Students paddle along in Galveston Bay, explore tranquil habitats, and make their own watercolor painting that reflects the diversity of life in the area. The trips include a minimum of 4 hours of hands-on, place-based, and experiential learning.

    It is 2 years after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Experts have differing opinions regarding the expected long-term effects of the spill on the environment. Short-term effects included oiled birds and blackened marshes, but the long-term effects can appear years after the oil disappeared from sight.

  3. Life of Geraldine Watson (Houston Chronicle, 04/15/2012)
    Geraldine Watson, a passionate environmental activist, passed away on April 6th. Geraldine was a renown botanist and author of numerous books on the wild flowers and plants of Texas. Her involvement with a number of environmental causes led her to become a critical part of the effort to establish the Big Thicket national Preserve. In 2005, Geraldine won the lifetime achievement Synergy Award.
