  1. Tompkins: No cheap solutions for species invasions (Shannon Tompkins – Houston Chronicle, 03/04/2012)
Chinese tallow trees, which are non-native, invasive trees, are the most common tree in the region. These tallow trees account for about 23 percent of all trees in the area according to the Houston Regional Forest report. This species is only one of many invasive species in the Houston region. Controlling invasive species is challenging and expensive, and negligence will only aid growth.

  2. Texas Parks & Wildlife offers 10 good reason to get outside this spring (Texas Parks & Wildlife, 03/08/2012)
Texas Parks & Wildlife is encouraging people to get outdoors this spring. It’s spring break for many, a good time to visit the parks in Texas. The drought may continue in the summer, so it is a good idea to enjoy spring while it’s here. Many burn bans have been lifted, wildflowers are beginning to bloom, and spring is one of the best times of year for birding.

  3. Houston Electric Car Drivers Have a New Place to Power Up (Gail Delaughter – KUHF News, 03/07/2012)
Houston is encouraging clean alternative fuel vehicles, and in doing so, continuing to work toward its goal of becoming a green city. A new charging station for electric cars was recently unveiled at Memorial City Mall, just off I-10 at Gessner in west Houston. There is hope to see hundreds of new charging stations around the city by the end of the year.
