Title: Houston Sierra Club – Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge
Location: North Wilderness Section of the Lone Star Hiking Trail
Link out: Click here
Description: The Brazoria NWR is a terminus of the Central Flyway for many North American
waterfowl. In winter, snow geese, pintail, teal, gadwall, and mottled ducks often
fill the many ponds and sloughs. Sandhill cranes, white pelicans, and caracaras are
also frequently seen. The refuge has several hiking trails, viewing platforms, and
an auto tour with good wildlife viewing opportunities. Time allowing, we may also
visit the San Bernard NWR. We’ll meet at the refuge at approximately 10am, and the
outing will last until 4pm or so. For full details and possible carpooling, contact
Frank Blake, frankblake@juno.com.
