- 136 Texas plants apply for new permits (Matthew Tresaugue – Houston Chronicle, 07/12/2011)
The EPA announced that the 136 industrial plants in Texas with state-issued permits have agreed to apply for new ones. Some state officials and at least ten industry groups are upset over this announcement and are challenging the EPA’s actions in federal court.

Republicans in Texas are opposed to a federal law to phase out incandescent light bulbs in favor of more efficient lamps.
