Description: FRACKING – WHAT IT IS AND WHAT ARE THE PROBLEMS
Hydraulic fracturing, also called “fracking,†has long been used in the oil industry, but recently its use expanded after Mitchell Energy developed methods of using it for extraction of gas from shale formulations. Although the technique is important for production of natural gas for supplying energy, its use involves many environmental problems, including contamination of drinking water, noise in residential communities, and earthquakes.
Vanessa Hamilton of League City, TX will speak on her grass roots effort to stop a drilling rig and the associated natural gas pipelines around League City. Gary Hogan from the Chapel Creek Neighborhood Association (also in association with the North Central Texas Communities Alliance) will talk next in detail on all aspects of fracking, including the associated air pollution and property rights issues.
