  1. Longest Day Hike. The Longest Day Hike will take place on the Turkey Creek Trail in the Big Thicket on June 25th at 8am. The trail is 15 miles, but shorter segments are also available.   2. Help the Thirsty Trees. Trees for Houston is asking communities to begin watering the trees in their neighborhoods to reduce the damage of the drought. They have released tips for saving trees including:
    • Judicious watering and fertilization.
    • Removing weeds and grass that compete with the trees for water.
    • Watching for yellowing leaves and premature leaf drop, which are early signs of drought damage.

  3. Tree ID for the Novice. The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center is offering a 3 hour workshop on identifying trees on June 26th from 2-5pm. Participants will learn how to use leaves and field guides to identify 30 tree species native or naturalized to the Houston area.
