HARC Longest Day Hike

Title: HARC Longest Day Hike
Location: trailhead on Gore Store Road off of Hwy 69, between Kountze and Warren
Link out: Click here
Description: Saturday, June 25th-Come for “The Longest Day Hike” on the Saturday following the summer solstice. There will be lots of daylight to hike the entire Turkey Creek Trail in the Big Thicket, all 15 miles of if you like, but there will be options for much shorter segments if that is your choice. Saturday, June 25th is not actually the longest day of the year, but it is as close.

Everyone will meet at 8:00 AM at the trailhead on Gore Store Road off of Hwy 69, between Kountze and Warren. Then everyone will shuttle to the trail head on Hwy 1943 near Warren.
The plan is to stop for lunch at CR 4825 and the Golden Triangle Sierra group will offer everyone a light lunch, cold drinks, and a place to relax and rest, with shade. This portion of the hike will end at the trailhead on Gore Store Road where the vehicles are parked. For those who want more hiking, they will then meet a Hwy 420 near the Big Thicket Visitor Center at the lower Turkey Creek trailhead and hike the Kirby Nature Trail and the Sand Hill Loop, returning to the trailhead on Hwy 420.

There are many points of access to this trail, and there may be other options if you only want to hike a portion of the trail. Please let HARC know if you wish to participate and what you like to do. No fee is required, however a $5 donation to cover the cost of shuttles would be appreciated. Trip leaders are Bruce Walker and Gerald Langham.

RSVP: Kathryn Walker-782-3485 or kwalker@gt.rr.com.
