Description: We are surrounded every day all over Houston with food and sources of
medicine, and most of us don’t even know it. Dr. Mark “Merriwether” Vorderbruggen will show some examples of edible and medicinal plants right here in Houston. There will be a hike that includes a tasting of plants from Russ Pitman Park.
Dr. Mark “Merriwether” Vorderbruggen earns his keep as a research chemist for a Houston oil company but his true passion is the world of wild edible and medicinal plants. His weekends are spent searching Texas for new wild edibles, working on his plant blog, cultivating wild medicinal and edible plants in his suburban permaculture food forest, or teaching foraging in natural settings throughout Texas.
This event is part of “For the Inquisitive Naturalist”, the Nature Discovery
Center’s monthly talk/walk series that occurs the first Wednesday of every month at 7pm at the Nature Discovery Center. Light refreshments are served. Children are welcome to attend our summer talks.
