- Dialogue Shows that Houston Has What It Takes to Retain its Title as Energy Capital of the World (Guidry News, 05/02/2011)
Energy 2040, a panel discussion led by the Center for Houston’s Future, talked about the factors that can keep Houston as the Energy Capital of the World in the decades to come. Panelists agreed that there must be a stronger focus on alternative and sustainable energy methods, which is already under way. This discussion was designed to bring about action and change where it is needed.
http://www.guidrynews.com/story.aspx?id=1000034508 - The EPA Battle of the Buildings Begins (Rod Rice – KUHF News, 05/03/2011)
The EPA has started a competition called “Battle of the Buildings” which calls for teams all around the country to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Buildings account for about 20% of the total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions and energy use, so this competition will hopefully reduce that number. Two teams from Houston are competing: Lakewood Church and Wells Fargo Plaza.

The Green Painter has opened in Houston. It is a retail store that only sells healthy, non-toxic paints, sealants, stains, and wall coverings. The creation of the store was influenced by an EPA report that some of the chemicals used in common paints causes cancer in laboratory animals. The Green Painter creates high quality, healthy, affordable paint.
