Coalition Notes 04-13-2011

  1. Earth Day Houston 2011. Air Alliance Houston is putting on the city’s largest celebration of Earth Day on April 23rd from 10am-4pm at Discovery Green. The annual event focuses on the merits of mindful, sustainable living while educating and encouraging Houstonians to preserve, conserve and enhance our city and the Earth. To learn more, visit http://www.earthdayhouston.org/festival.php. Even more events are listed at http://cechouston.org/category/earthday2011/.
  2. Spring Migration. Sometimes it seems as though the number of birding events along the gulf coast during spring migration is exceeded only by the number of birds–and we are having a hard time keeping track of all of the events while at the same time popping out for a view of warblers and other delights. A few good websites to check: Houston Audubon, Gulf Coast Bird Observatory, the Outdoor Nature Club’s Ornithology Group, and Migration Celebration.
  3. GTBC Online Auction. The Gulf Coast Bird Observatory is hosting an online auction to raise money for the Great Texas Birding Classic. The auction will remain open until midnight on April 15th. Visit http://www.gcbo.org to check out the art, books, and other nature related items in the auction.
  4. Green Week Houston 2011. Green Week Houston 2011 and the No Impact Challenge will be taking place from April 17th to April 23rd. The goal of the challenge is to help the planet, inspire friends, and become happier, healthier, richer in the process. There is a new challenge every day:
