Description: PUT YOUR LOVE OF NATURE TO WORK – BECOME A TEXAS MASTER NATURALIST
The Heartwood Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist program will hold their 2011 Certification Training Program March 19 – August 27. Classes will be held approximately every other Saturday and most classes will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – a few classes will last until 2:30 p.m. Most classes will be held at Jones State Forest on FM 1488 just north of the Woodlands. The cost of the training is $150. The registration fee includes a really neat training manual, handouts, nametag, certification pin and certificate and a TMN polo-shirt.
Classes will include such topics as the Ecological Regions of Texas, Forests, Prairies, Wetlands, Urban Areas, Geology and Soils, Plants, Mammalogy, Ornithology, Entomology and Herpetology. You will learn what a naturalist is, how to develop your observation skills, how to preserve our natural environment and how to give back to the community as a volunteer.
Certification as a Texas Master Naturalist requires a minimum of 40 hours of classroom and field study, 40 hours of volunteer work and an additional 8 hours of advanced training. To maintain your certification each year you will need to perform an additional 40 hours of volunteer work and attend 8 hours of advanced training.

March 19, April 2 & 16 & 30, May 7 & 21, June 11 & 25, July 9 & 23, August 6 & 20 & 27

Once you have registered and paid your registration fee you can start earning your volunteer and advanced training hours. The training coordinator will contact you once we get your information.
