Description: Watch this documentary, scheduled to air on Texas PBS stations, as the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department dives right in to explore this vast body of water. The film examines the Gulf’s unique ecology, diverse flora and fauna and important habitats that nurture a bounty of fish and wildlife including endangered species such as whooping cranes and the Kemps’ Ridley sea turtle. Then there are the forces that threaten the Gulf: industry, pollution, powerful hurricanes, climate change and disasters like the recent Deepwater Horizon oil spill – a drama with biological and economic ramifications that continue to unfold. Protecting and managing America’s sea is an overwhelming and challenging task and collaborative efforts being made by a multitude of state, federal, international, public and private entities are essential.
