Then there are the forces that threaten the Gulf: industry, pollution, powerful hurricanes, climate change and disasters like the recent Deepwater Horizon oil spill – a drama with biological and economic ramifications that continue to unfold. Protecting and managing America’s sea is an overwhelming and challenging task and collaborative efforts being made by a multitude of state, federal, international, public and private entities are essential.
