  1. Green Building Tour: Greater Harris County 9-1-1 Emergency Network Headquarters. As one in a series of free tours of green buildings in Houston, you are invited to see the LEED Silver Greater Harris County 911 Emergency Network Headquarters, The Tom Bass Office Building, on Friday, February 18, 2011, in an “open house style” guided tour approximately every 30 minutes from 11 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Tour will begin at 10220 Fairbanks North Houston, Houston, Texas 77064.   2. Great Texas Birding Classic Registration. The 2011 Great Texas Birding Classic is set for April 9th – 17th and registration is now open online at www.birdingclassic.org. There are tournaments for all ages and skill levels so don’t be left out of this ongoing effort to raise money for conservation along the Texas Coast. There are many helpful resources on the website for planning your day so be sure to check them out. This year we are introducing the Human-Powered tournament so if you’ve been waiting for an opportunity to bike, kayak, or walk, here’s your chance. To date, the Birding Classic has raised $736,000 for habitat conservation. Be a part of this living legacy by participating, sponsoring, or making a donation.  Watch theClassic website and Fanpage for lots of updates coming in February.
  3. Texas Water Resources Institute announces competitive grant program. Scientists at Texas universities researching topics on water resources are invited to submit proposals for the 2011 National Competitive Grants Program through the Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI). The U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the National Institutes for Water Research, of which TWRI is Texas’ representative, requests the proposals as part of the Water Resources Research Act.
