1. Buffalo Bayou Paddling Trail. The Bayou Preservation Association is the first place winner in the Houston-Galveston Area Council’s (H-GAC) 2010 Parks and Natural Areas Award competition in the category of “On the Ground Projects Under $500,000.” The winning project submitted for the competition was the Buffalo Bayou Paddling Trail, which spans 26 miles and is the longest in the state of Texas, extending from Highway 6 at Terry Hershey Park on the west side of town, to Allen’s Landing in downtown Houston. 2. Annual Computer Drive – Success! Techs & Trainers completed their most successful computer drive in the non-profit’s history, last Friday, bringing in more than 300 computers, 170 monitors, 120 printers, and hundreds of other accessories over a two week period. The donations help to provide computer training and skills development to Houstonians with barriers to employment. Instead of ending up in a landfill, the computers contribute to a good cause. 3. Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Education & Recreation Center Spring Break Camp. Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Education & Recreation Center is putting on a spring break camp from March 14-18. Children will spring into fun-filled nature activities during this five day camp that will light a passion for the outdoors while teaching them about the many things nature has to offer. 4. A Great Year at Wildlife Rehab and Education. Volunteers at the Wildlife Center logged 18,856 hours during 4704 visits. Note that these numbers do not include those of full or part-time staff. Dozens of off-site rehabilitators care for animals that need round the clock care, those almost ready for release and don’t need the intensive care of the Wildlife Center and those species like raccoon, skunk and bat which once stabilized are immediately transferred off-site. More at https://wrande.org/
