Location: area between McDonald’s and DJ’s Country Store on the corner of I-10 & Hwy 61 (take the Hankamer exit off I-10)

Description: The count covers all points within 7.5 miles of Lake Charlotte. This is less than an hour’s drive east of Houston. Running through the count area is the Trinity River providing diverse habitat. Some of the available habitat is not birded. More birders would increase both the species and total birds count. Hurricane IKE devastated the area resulting in a very low species count last year. The rainy 2009 count returned to a more normal 140 species.
