Taxas Master Naturalist Volunteer Opportunity
Title: Taxas Master Naturalist Volunteer Opportunity
Location: Hermann Park’s Bayou Parkland located on Almeda between South MacGregor and Holcombe
Description: UPCOMING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:
August 21, is orientation day for many of our local colleges and they want to volunteer in the community. This is a great opportunity for GCMNs to be involved in sharing the TMN mission: to provide education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities.
Your help is needed to work with college students in removing invasive plants from natural areas within Hermann Park’s Bayou Parkland located on Almeda between South MacGregor and Holcombe (next to the Houston Park’s and Recreation building). the students will be divided into smaller groups to remove giant cane, small trees and exotics. Bayou Parkland is unique with its Post Oak Savannah, a vital habitat for avian Shrikes that are on the decline. On August 21 we can help restore this vital area. Tools, gloves, and cold water will be provided. Please contact GCMN member Diane Kerr (dianelindabird@yahoo.com) or contact the Volunteer Coordinator at Hermann Park (volunteer@hermannpark.org) to sign up for this great outreach opportunity at Bayou Parkland to build a memorable event between our local college students and what it means to be a Texas Master Naturalist.
