CEC welcomes new member group Clean the World

Each month hundreds of thousands of hotels and motels discard tons of slightly used soaps and shampoo, with most ending up in already overflowing landfills, and potentially contaminating fragile groundwater systems.  Clean the World collects and repurposes these items using environmentally friendly and hygienically safe recycling efforts. This organization is committed to the prevention of illness and death caused by Acute Respiratory Infection and Diarrheal Disease in countries across the globe.  Every year over 5 million lives are lost to these diseases – most are children under 5 years old.  Studies have shown that simple hand washing can greatly reduce the spread of these diseases, however, many do not have the essential items to do so.  Clean the World is helping to prevent this problem, one bar of soap at a time, and is reducing waste and helping our environment here while they do it.For more information, see www.cleantheworld.org or contact Jeff Hooton, Regional Director, at jhooton@cleantheworld.org or call the office at 713-667-7901.
