Description: Armand Bayou Nature Center’s Second Saturday continues May 8 with a timely event, Wildflower Days! Each month on the second Saturday from 10:00 a.m. till noon, a topic appropriate to the season is shared with visitors to the nature center.
This month Christina LaChance, WaterSmart Program Coordinator with TX Sea Grant and TX AgriLife Extension Service will present “Bringing the Beauty of Native Plants Indoors.†She will talk about how to enjoy native plants inside as well as outside. “Native plants are lauded for their wildlife benefits, their adaptability to our climate of droughts and floods, giving us a sense of place and preserving our ecological heritage. However, they have a unique beauty that can also be appreciated indoors as well as outdoors,†explains LaChance. Attendees will receive a plant list and learn the why, where and how of growing native plants in general. As a bonus, she’ll have flower arrangements to help show how beautiful natives can be in your home. Think of it as Flower Arranging 101, but with a twist!
In addition to the presentation at 11:00 a.m. there will be several activities beginning at 10:00 a.m. Make a beautiful bookmark using pressed flowers or build a flowerpot from recycled newspaper or enjoy a wildflower walk with an ABNC volunteer.
Admission to Second Saturdays is free to members, $3 for non-member adults and $1 for children 4-12 and seniors 60 and older. For more information, phone 281-474-2551.
