Description: The Citizens’ Transportation Coalition (www.ctchouston.org) reports:

On May 3rd, Senator John Carona will convene a public hearing of the Senate Transportation and Homeland Security committee at the George R. Brown convention center. The Committee will hear both invited and public testimony regarding three of its 12 interim study charges:
Recommend ways to maximize the contribution of alternative transportation modes and evaluate what impacts they have on congestion and air quality,

Evaluate TxDOT’s policy for permitting overweight vehicles and recommend ways to ensure overweight vehicles do not cause significant damage to the State’s roadways and bridges, and

Study and make recommendations for legislation to inform Texans about best practices for hurricane preparation, response, and recovery, including information about basic state operations and pre-designated locations for PODs (Points of Distribution) across the state. Establish procedures and penalties for noncompliance by local jurisdictions that hinder response and recovery efforts.
The committee may also hear public comments on other transportation issues. If you plan to speak, comments are limited to three minutes. The committee will also accept written testimony of any length (bring 15 copies and include your name on each copy).

Where: George R. Brown Convention Center, downtown Houston, 77002 (map).
Paid parking is available at on-street meters, in surface lots, and under Discovery Green. Many METRO routes serve the convention center, and the Main Street Square rail station is about eight blocks away.
