Description:

The monthly Second Saturday event is “Earth Day Birthday” on Saturday, April 10 in honor of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. The festivities begin at 10:00 a.m. with Louis Mickler speaking on low volume irrigation. Hoping to save water while keeping the landscape looking its best? Then don’t miss hearing the “guru” of low volume irrigation. Mickler, a popular speaker on the subject, is a Master Gardener with Harris County Precinct 2. For those preferring to commune with nature, there are the regularly scheduled 10:00 a.m. trail hike and a special bird walk to enjoy spring migration. At 11:00 a.m. Ken Steblein, Landscape and Recycling Specialist from UTMB will talk on backyard composting, followed by an outdoor composting demo. Don’t miss this opportunity to “get the dirt” on composting. The whole family will enjoy the “make and take” activities of building a birdhouse from cedar fencing or a flower pot from recycled newspaper. Galveston Baykeeper will have an exhibit booth showing visitors ways to protect our waterways and keep Galveston Bay healthy.  Second Saturday events are free to members, with regular admission fees charged to non-members.
