Sierra Club May Forest Walk
Title: Sierra Club May Forest Walk
Location: Winters Bayou in Sam Houston National Forest
Link out: Click here
Description: On Saturday, May 8, 2010, join the Houston Sierra Club as we hike along Winters Bayou, near the Four Notch area, in Sam Houston National Forest. The Sierra Club has not hiked this area for many years and there are parts of Winters Bayou that we have never seen. This should be a great way to see some new stream floodplain, identify diverse bottomland hardwood trees, hear many migratory songbird species, and enjoy the last part of the spring. Bring your daypack, hat, water, lunch, insect repellent, binoculars, hiking shoes, camera, field guides, and clothes to fit the weather.
We will meet to carpool/caravan at 7:30 a.m. in the parking lot just west of Starbucks (look for Becks Prime) in Meyerland Plaza. Starbucks fronts the 4700 block of Beechnut (south side of Beechnut, near the 610 West Loop South). Look for a blue Plymouth Neon with lots of bumper stickers.
If you would like to come call Brandt Mannchen at 713-664-5962 or email him at brandtshnfbt@juno.com and leave your name, address, phone number, and email. In case of trip cancellation Brandt will either email or call you.
