Description: Celebrate invention, innovation and eco-efficiency as Discovery Green becomes a test course for tomorrow’s vehicles. High school and college student teams from around the world design, build and test energy efficient vehicles for maximum fuel efficiency. With annual events in the Americas, Europe and Asia, the winner is the team that goes the furthest distance using the least amount of energy. Shell and the City of Houston bring the amazing Shell Eco-marathon to Houston. The Shell Eco-marathon as we know it today began in 1985 in France. In 2007, the first Shell Eco-marathon Americas took place in California. In 2005, Swiss team ETH Zurich achieved the highest recorded mileage for the Shell Eco-marathon with an impressive 9,022 mpg (3,836 km/l) on the equivalent of a single gallon of fuel.
