Houston Farmer’s Market to Focus on Tuesday Market; Saturday market discontinued
It’s plain to everyone that the number of farmers markets has practically exploded, especially this year. Â It’s good news in that folks are eating more local food and more fresh fruits and vegetables. Â The not so good news is that the growers of that food are spreading themselves so thinly across so many more markets. Â A recent online article in the Wall Street Journal (Farmers Markets See Risks from Growth,http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704533204575048000839268376.html) drew attention to the unintended consequences of this growth. With so many markets opening, it makes it difficult for farmers at any one market to make a profit. Â With that in mind we have decided to close our Saturday market. We will refocus our efforts on our thriving Tuesday farmers market.
