KPC Ducks and Donuts: Waterfowl Bonanza
Title: KPC Ducks and Donuts: Waterfowl Bonanza
Location: Katy Prairie Field Preserve
Link out: Click here
Description: The Texas coast is an amazing area for wintering waterfowl and the Premier Waterfowl Ecosystem is the Katy Prairie. The Katy Prairie Conservancy’s grasslands and wetlands supports thousands of wintering ducks (24 species possible) and thousands of geese ( 5 species possible) and Mergansers ( 2 species). While the identification of male ducks is often straightforward, the same cannot be said of the more cryptically colored females. Therein lies the challenge and fun of duck identification.
On this trip we will visit different KPC protected wetlands and grasslands to observe and study waterfowl. We will learn techniques for separating the different species of ducks, geese, and the mergansers.
