Title: H-GAC Hosts Subregional Planning Workshops for the East Port Area
Location: Baytown Community Center, 2407 Market St, Baytown 77520
Link out: Click here
Description: The Houston-Galveston Area Council invites area citizens, business leaders, community stakeholders and local officials to attend and voice their opinions and ideas regarding a Transportation-Land Use Vision for the East Port area, which includes 257 sq. miles.

H-GAC is conducting two workshops to generate public comments on how to create opportunities for more closely coordinated local and regional transportation, land use and environmental plans. The public is encouraged to attend either of these two workshops and to work with regional planners to develop and evaluate future growth concepts and make comments.

The goal of H-GAC’s Subregional Planning Initiative (SPI) Program is to enable the Houston-Galveston region and its local communities to continue successes in protecting economic vitality, transportation assets, environmentally sensitive areas, green space and quality communities that attract new people and businesses to the region.

The East Port Plan study area includes the cities of Baytown, Clear Lake Shores, Deer Park, Galena Park, Jacinto City, Kemah, La Porte, League City, Morgan’s Point, Pasadena, Seabrook, Shoreacres, South Houston, Webster, and unincorporated areas of Harris and Chambers counties.

Workshop #1: TUESDAY, February 2, 2010, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Baytown Community Center, 2407 Market St, Baytown 77520

Workshop #2: THURSDAY, February 4, 2010, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Evelyn Kennedy Civic Center, 618 San Jacinto St, La Porte 77504

H-GAC’s SPI Program will provide an opportunity for local communities and regional planners to work together to create a Transportation-Land Use Vision for the East Port area and better coordinate regional plans with local community plans in the area. Communities will be able to explore how their plans, regulations and policies can help support regional goals and plans.

Regional planners will work with local jurisdictions to identify consensus transportation investment priorities throughout the planning and public process. The SPI Program will provide online information on Best Practices for land use, environmental and transportation planning for local governments, citizens and community leaders.
