Description: Local volunteers needed to plant 500 trees at Weiss Park.
Trees For Houston will host its 2010 Arbor Day tree planting at Weiss Park on Saturday, January 30 from 8am to 11am. Houstonians of all ages are needed to help plant 500 native trees donated by Chevron from their Humble-based tree farm. This reforestation effort guarantees vital environmental improvements to the park and our community. Tree planting demonstrations will be conducted by the Trees For Houston staff. Volunteers can fuel up on breakfast sandwiches donated by Chick-fil-A.
It has been over 135 years since J. Sterling Morton founded Arbor Day. His simple idea of setting aside a special day for tree planting is now more important than ever. While national Arbor Day is in April, Houston celebrates Arbor Day in January because the weather is prime for tree planting.
