Description: Texas Commission on Environmental Quality announced today that the commissioners’ work session for January will be held in Galveston rather than at commission headquarters in Austin.

“We are aware that coming to Austin presents a hardship for many people,” said TCEQ Chairman Bryan W. Shaw, Ph.D. “In the interest of public participation, we are branching out to give more people the opportunity to talk to us in person.”

“The people in the Galveston area have become familiar with many of the issues we deal with on a daily basis following Hurricane Ike,” said Buddy Garcia, TCEQ commissioner. “I look forward to hearing from residents of this area as well as our continued work together.”

“The environmental issues faced by Texans can vary dramatically based on geography,” said Carlos Rubinstein, TCEQ commissioner. “I hope people will take advantage of the chance to speak with us directly so that we will better understand how best to address these diverse needs.”

The meeting is scheduled on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the Galleon Room (first floor) of the Galveston Island Convention Center, 5600 Seawall Blvd.

These work sessions are held from time to time to give commissioners a chance to allow in-depth discussion on policy issues and solicit public comment. More information on work session schedules can be found at: http://www.tceq.state.tx.us/comm_exec/agendas/wk_sess/w_session.html.

The meeting is also webcast live for free, and archived meetings are available, at TexasAdMin.com.
