Kleb Woods Nature Preserve Update

This continues to be a busy time at the Harris County Precinct Three Kleb Woods Nature Center. The autumn bird migration is in full swing an  migrating species are regularly encountered at Kleb Woods Nature Preserve. Migrants noted recently include the colorful American Redstart and the Gray Catbird, “cousin” to our state bird, the Mockingbird. Brown Thrashers, whose calls sound like electric “bug zappers,” are here in increasing numbers. This past Wednesday bird walk found 33 species. The highlights for the walk were the American Redstart, the elusive Hermit Thrush and a Great Horned Owl, whose cryptic presence high in a pine tree was betrayed by a lively chorus of crows, warning all other birds of the owl’s presence.  The crows also “tattled” on a Red-shouldered Hawk in the same area. The weekly Wednesday bird walks are from 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. There is no charge and Commissioner Steve Radack welcomes all. Check out the link to the October calendar for other activities, including birding trips to San Bernard and Attwater Nat’l Wildlife Refuges.  http://www.pct3.hctx.net/parks/klebwoodsnaturepres.aspx?calendar
