CEC Welcomes New Member Habitat for Humanity
Houston Habitat for Humanity (HHFH) addresses the growing need for affordable housing in the Houston area by building safe, decent homes that are financially accessible by hard-working families earning median income and below. All Houston Habitat homes are built according to the Greater Houston Builders Association’s Green Built Gulf Coast (GBGC) Construction Protocol, and every house is Energy Star Rated.
Although more widely known for the houses it builds, Houston Habitat also develops sustainable neighborhoods by working to support goals that are environmentally sensitive and, where possible, to allocate green spaces, landscape common areas, establish walking trails, and pour sidewalks. The non-profit establishes Home Owner Associations (HOAs) in Habitat neighborhoods whereby families partner on legal and social efforts to improve and sustain the complexities of their communities.
The ReStore, a home improvement retail outlet, is operated by HHFH, where new and deconstructed merchandise is recycled for purchase by the community. All proceeds go toward operation of the organization’s building program.
Through its Cars for Homes vehicle donation program, used cars, trucks, boats, RVs, motorcycles, construction equipment or other vehicles—running or not—return dollars to Houston Habitat as well as save energy and natural resources.
