Houston Audubon participates in Bolivar Penninsula Long Term Recovery Committee.
Winnie Burkett has been appointed to the Environmental subcommittee of the Bolivar Peninsula Long Term Recovery Committee. The initial phase of this project will last just 6 weeks and the goal will be a Blueprint for the Bolivar Peninsula. This initial phase is funded by FEMA with FEMA consultants providing assistance. The Environmental Committee has the potential to have some real input about the future of the peninsula. The initial list of issues is Rollover Pass, Eco-tourism, Habitat restoration, Dune Reconstruction and Beach Nourishment, Wetland Protection, Coastal Barrier Resource Act, and Fisheries. This is a great opportunity to have a significant impact on the future of habitat on the Bolivar Peninsula. More articles at http://www.houstonaudubon.org/html/HASFieldNotesMay09.htm
