Artist Boat seeks volunteers to restore dunes

Artist Boat, Keller Williams, and Marquette are restoring 2,200 linear feet of dunes on May 14, 2009.  This project is in alignment with the Hurricane Recovery Plan and the project for Ecosystem Restoration from the Gulf to the Bay.  One of the goals of this recovery project is to restore 33 miles of dunes on Galveston Island.  Already Artist Boat has partnered with many home owners, property owner associations, and the Gulf of Mexico Foundation to restore many dunes on the West End of Galveston Island.  Galveston Island’s dune system was dramatically impacted by hurricane Ike.  The benefits of the dunes to our beaches and viewshed are innumerable and your assistance is greatly appreciated.  If you are interested in volunteering as a team leader please see the attached flier and contact Nicole Ekstrom at nekstrom@artistboat.org or 409-770-0722.  Artist Boat will need 20-25 team leaders to work with 200+ volunteers from Keller Williams coming to restore habitat.  Also, please let us know of sites where restoration is wanted and who to contact as we are planning fall activities for school partnerships.  We will also need people to register the volunteers and this might be less heavy a task than being a team leader.  Thanks for your support of hurricane recovery on the island and dune restoration.
